Majority of Brazilian Internet Users Watch Online Video
While user-supported video services, such as YouTube, have popularized global online video viewership, a new report from comScore indicates this is especially the case in Brazil.
The research firm found that more than 35 million Brazilians watched online videos during July – 85 percent of the country’s total internet population. The increased audience for online videos was attributed primarily to the World Cup, with Brazilians viewing a total of 6.7 billion videos during the competition.
Google sites – namely YouTube – were the most popular online video providers, serving more than 28 million internet users. Meanwhile, regional sites Organizacoes Globo and UOL reached 13 million consumers combined.
With more Brazilians gaining access to high-speed internet, comScore predicts video marketing will soon be more effective in the country. “As broadband penetration continues to increase, it will only lead to more online video viewing in Brazil, opening up valuable new marketing channel for advertisers,” said Alex Banks, comScore managing director for Brazil.
Meanwhile, Americans are increasingly viewing online videos as well. ComScore recently reported that more than 178 million U.S. internet users viewed videos on the web in July.
