MySpace Enables Users to Share Content Through Facebook

MySpace users can broadcast content through Facebook.Attesting to the growing impact Facebook has on consumers, rival site MySpace released a new feature earlier this week that enables users to share content across the two platforms, enhancing the site’s value to marketing campaigns.

The social network had previously supported cross-network sync with Twitter, enabling users on both sites to share news and content. Unlike MySpace’s link with Twitter, though, the new Sync with Facebook feature is restricted to outbound sharing, meaning Facebook users can not update their MySpace profiles through Facebook.

According to MySpace’s director of product management, Jennifer Ruffner, the feature allows the social network’s core audience – musicians – to better position their content for maximum exposure. “(Sync with Facebook) is particularly exciting for artists who can now use this tool as a complement to their MySpace Music presence and share their vast library of content … to people who’ve liked their Facebook Page.”

At one point, MySpace was the No. 1 social media site, though Facebook eclipsed the site in 2009. Nielsen reported earlier this year that Facebook exhibited a 69 percent year-over-year gain, while MySpace was down more than 20 percent.
