Barneys Adds Mobile Technology To Improve In-Store Experience

Barneys New York has introduced mobile technology to help improve the customer experience and streamline in-store processes for sales associates.

The point-of-sale technology, called miStore, is being used for loss prevention, order management, and inventory control, as well as for storing customer information. With the store’s iPod touch devices, Barneys staff can look up a customer’s purchasing history, check inventory at other locations, look up order numbers, and complete sales transactions.

“There are practical benefits, like decreasing the square footage for registers and increasing the selling space,” said Tom Tamulewicz, vice president of research and development for Micros-Retail, the company behind miStore. “The larger ROI comes from an improved level of customer service and being able to directly interact with the customer as they are in the middle of their shopping experience.”

Guinness Adds Augmented Reality App To European Holiday Campaign

Europeans out for a Guinness this Christmas can add a little extra festive cheer to their drinks, thanks to a new “Decorate Your Pint” augmented reality app.

Guinness has teamed up with Blippar to create the iPhone and Android holiday app specifically for European markets. Users can download the app and point their smartphone at the can, bottle or pint glass.

As the phone’s camera displays the beverage, the app recognizes the Guinness logo and asks the user to verify that they are of legal drinking age.  Users can then choose from a variety of holiday-themed decals, including snowflakes, presents, and a Santa hat, that they can use to decorate their beer.

Guinness fans can add as many decorations as they like, and then share their creations via Facebook, Twitter and email, according to Mobile Marketer.
